It Isn't What You Think...
We need to create JOY in our life. Every. Single. Day.
Just like we optimize our health by eating good foods, getting enough sleep and exercising, we need to train ourselves to create joy. If we focus purely on our physical health without strengthening our joyfulness, we will still not be healthy. I believe joy is a muscle we can strengthen with intention and practice.
Often we think of creating joy in terms of BIG moments like vacations, parties and milestones. But just like we don't get healthy from one workout or one healthy meal, creating joy is about small actions done consistently.
It is no surprise that Joy is the leading character in Inside Out. Joy drives us to take action and live the most vibrant life possible. It is no accident that presidential candidate Kamala Harris has made Joy one of her leading themes. We all crave more joy in our lives these days. Joy is the fuel that keeps our engines running. The more joy we cultivate, the better our "engines" will operate in our daily lives.
How do we "exercise" our joy muscle? I'm so glad you asked as there are so many ways that you can find joy right this very minute!
Focus Your Attention: Look for the good and you will find it.
Connection: Make time every day to reach out to friends or family with a quick text or call and notice the joy this gives you.
Gratitude: Write down or list 3 things every day that you are grateful for
I believe that JOY, LOVE and CONNECTION are essential to our well-being - just as important as physical fitness.
I created LightUp for this exact reason. Yes, I wanted a workout that was perfect for a mid-life woman with a balance of targeted strength training & stretch. But I also wanted to create an hour of just pure fun to balance out all the responsibilities of daily life. And I wanted to create a community where women practiced mindfulness and talked nice to themselves.
I wanted a class that had love, joy, connection AND a great workout. If you want that too, you have got to try LightUp. It's an hour where we strengthen our muscles AND our joy. You leave feeling stronger and well, joyful. |
